The new diving watch was presented along with a wide selection of models from the Cuban firm at an event attended by Pipín Ferreras and the brand’s commercial director in Spain, Mónica Ripoll Mata, and brought together a distinguished audience of clients and friends of Gómez & Molina Joyeros, who enjoyed an unforgettable evening.

Founded in Havana in 1882, the history of Cuervo y Sobrinos is intertwined with that of Cuba. Today, the company’s watches are manufactured on the shores of Lake Lugano in Switzerland, but the brand’s ties with the Caribbean island remain intact. In fact, the company still has a boutique in Havana and often finds inspiration from various aspects of Cuban life, as well as from its extensive archives.

In 2021, Cuervo y Sobrinos announced its partnership with Cuban freediving legend and multiple world record holder Francisco “Pipin” Ferreras. Born in Matanzas (Cuba), Pipín acquired a passion for spearfishing at an early age, diving deeper and deeper and diving for longer and longer with each passing year.

Pipin, sometimes described as a “human fish,” is probably best known for “no limits” freediving, the discipline in which he first became known. In November 1989, he set the first unrestricted freediving world record with a descent of 112 meters.

Shortly after announcing its collaboration with Pipin, Cuervo y Sobrinos began work on a new diver’s watch. The result was the limited edition model Buceador Caribe Pipin.

Designed to be readable both underwater and on land, it features a pure white dial that incorporates blue and red accents, a nod to the Cuban flag. Housed in a 43 mm steel case, this watch is water-resistant to 200 meters.

Following the convention of diving watches, the Pipin Caribbean Diver is equipped with a solid case back. In this case, it is engraved with the image of a diver swimming underwater, surrounded by a school of tropical fish.

The Pipin Caribbean Diver is limited to 171 specimens, in reference to the last world record set by Pipin in the No-Limits discipline of 171 meters (560 feet) in November 2003.
